17th FAI European Aerobatic Championships

Held in Touzim, Czech Republic, the 17th FAI European Aerobatic Championships kicked off last Thursday and will come to an end on Sunday. 11 countries are participating (Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Russia, Switzerland, United Kingdom), as well as some independent pilots from USA and Spain. In a tragic accident on the 8th August in Minsk, Belarus, Guenter Zimmer, a world class and leading helicopter pilot was killed shortly after his wife Iryna had been successful in one of the events, coming third overall. Guenter participated in World Championships spanning 18 years representing Germany at the highest level. Guenter was one of the most kind hearted and humorous individual one could wish to meet. He had friends spanning many countries. He was a wonderful person to talk to, very humorous and willing to help, advise and share information. Photogenic Hot Air Airships in the French Skies

The 9th FAI World Hot Air Airship Championship was held from 13 to 18 July 2010 in Dole (FRA). Eleven pilots representing 9 nations gathered at the Dole-Tavaux Airport last week to compete at the controls of their surprisingly maneuverable airships. The 1st FAI Women's European Hot Air Balloon Championship held from 15 to 20 June 2010 has been successfully achieved and allowed 27 female balloon pilots from 11 countries to measure their flying skills in the skies of Alytus (LTU). The Father of the FAI Environmental Code of Conduct was buried today.

It was with great sadness that we learned that Dr. Michael GOTH, President of the FAI Environmental Commission, had been killed in a tragic Gliding accident while flying recreationally on Saturday 29 May. The recent visit to Turkey of FAI President Pierre Portmann and Secretary-General Stéphane Desprez offered the chance to learn more about Türk Hava Kurumu (THK), the Turkish Aeronautical Association, which celebrated its 85th anniversary on February 16.
